Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has spoken about who he feels is to blame for their recent failures in the UEFA Champions League.
The former FC Barcelona and Bayern Munich boss tasted European glory twice with the Catalans, but has failed to reach the final of the competition in the past seven years.
Despite having a star-studded squad at both Bayern and City, the coach has come under pressure for his lack of success in the tournament, which culminated in a shock elimination at the hands of Olympique Lyon last season.
Ahead of their opening match of the 2020/21 competition against FC Porto on Wednesday, Guardiola looked back at the Citizens' exit last season, and spoke about who was to blame.
"It was a tough moment," the Spaniard said, according to the Evening Standard.
"I felt so responsible for this, how the club and players fought to achieve it, and I was not able to drive them. Still right now I feel responsible watching the game.
"At every club, not just here, you have to dream with high expectations, but the reality is we have not performed to the level we have to to get through in this competition."
Guardiola is currently in the last year of his contract with the Citizens, and will be hoping to finally taste glory in Europe's top club competition with City this season.
