The Argentine found the back of the net in Barca's 2-1 win over PSV Eindhoven on Wednesday evening.
In doing so, Messi scored his 106th Champions League goal for Barca, making him the most prolific scorer in the tournament for one club. Ronaldo had 105 goals for Real Madrid.
The Barca superstar was thrilled about setting a new record in Europe's premier club competition.
"I am delighted, I have just found out now. I am happy for this new stat," Messi told the club's official website. The Argentine forward picked up the assist for Barca's second goal, but he has now revealed he didn't mean to pick out Gerard Pique.
