FC Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi picked up the Man of the Match award against PSV Eindhoven on Wednesday night, and broke a UEFA Champions League all-time record set by his rival Cristiano Ronaldo along the way.

The Argentine forward scored his side's opener before providing the assist for Gerard Pique's goal in Barca's 2-1 win over the Dutch side.

The win saw the Blaugrana qualify for the knockout stage with one game to spare, while Messi once again wrote his name into the UCL's history books.
The 31-year-old netted his 106th goal in the competition against PSV, breaking Ronaldo's record for the most goals by a player for a single club in the Champions League.
Messi scored his 106 strikes in 128 games for Barcelona, while Ronaldo netted 105 times in 163 appearances for Real Madrid before joining Juventus.

Overall, though, Ronaldo remains the competition's all-time record goalscorer with 121 strikes.
