After the game at Anfield ended goalless on Tuesday, there appeared to be no love lost between the two managers, as they seemed to exchange harsh words not long following the final whistle.
Kovac revealed it was due to a cultural misunderstanding, saying Klopp took offence to him not shaking his hand immediately after the match.
"That was funny," he said, according to the Liverpool Echo.
"We were on English soil. In Germany it is normal when games end, you shake hands with your players first.
"In England, first the coaches shake hands so I did what I did in Germany. I said sorry and made up for it. In Germany we will do it as we do it in Germany."
