The two superstars failed to be named the UEFA Men's Player of the Year in the previous two editions, but still managed to grab positional accolades in 2018 and 2019.
This time, however, neither of the them won anything, with Robert Lewandowski picking up the main accolade.
Ronaldo, who has won the award three times, only finished in 10th spot in the UEFA Men's Player of the Year ranking, while two-time champion Messi came in joint-fourth.
Lewandowski succeeds Virgil van Dijk following a brilliant 2019/20 campaign that saw him score 55 goals in 47 appearances.
He is part of a Bayern side that secured the quintuple on Wednesday, and was the heavy favourite for the main accolade, beating Kevin De Bruyne as well as Manuel Neuer to the prize.
Neuer and De Bruyne, though, did not go home empty-handed as they were crowned the best in their respective positions.
