Although winning the Champions League is often regarded as an unwritten prerequisite to winning the Ballon d'Or, not all who have won football's biggest individual prize have managed to conquer Europe's premier club competition.
Brazil legend Ronaldo Nazario, who boasts a 2002 FIFA World Cup medal and won the Ballon d'Or in 1997 and 2002, could never get his hands on a UCL title, despite turning out for the likes of FC Barcelona, Inter Milan, Real Madrid and AC Milan.

Despite having won the World Cup and Ballon d'Or in 2006, Fabio Cannavaro enjoyed a similar fate to Ronaldo. The Italian defender represented Parma, Juventus, Inter Milan and Real Madrid in the Champions League, but was never part of a side that went all the way.
Cannavaro's former Juve teammates Gianluigi Buffon and Pavel Nedved, the latter of whom is also a Ballon d'Or winner, also missed out on the prestigious trophy, although Buffon is still trying to change his fortunes with the Bianconeri at the age of 42.
