Serie A
Result: Juventus 1-0 Empoli
Date: 30 March 2019
Venue: Allianz Stadium
Moise Kean came off the bench to net the winning goal as Serie A leaders Juventus edged past Empoli at the Allianz Stadium on Saturday night. Bianconeri were without star man Cristiano Ronaldo who got injured while playing for Portugal in the international break. The visitors were threatening to go ahead in the early stages, but their first best chance arrived in the 23rd minute through Rade Krunic whose curling effort sailed just wide of the upright. After a slow start, Massimiliano Allegri's troops were starting to build their rhythm and Mario Mandzukic was unlucky not to break the deadlock for Juventus on the half-hour mark with a diving header that was saved by Empoli goalkeeper Bartlomiej Dragowski. After a scoreless first half, the Old Lady dominated the early exchanges of the second stanza but they continued to struggle in the final third, which saw Allegri introduce Leonardo Spinazzola for Alex Sandro. The deadlock was eventually broken after 72 minuets when another substitute, Moise Kean, fired home from close range for his third goal in his last three games for club and country. Empoli, meanwhile, struggled to carve out any clear-cut openings on Wojciech Szczesny's goal in the second half, although Allegri did not take any chance as defender Martin Caceres was brought on in the closing stages. In the end, Kean's solitary strike was enough to secure a win open an 18-point lead over second-place Napoli.
