Maurizio Sarri opted to start Aaron Ramsey in the attack along with Paulo Dybala and Cristiano Ronaldo, while Adrien Rabiot got a rare start in the midfield.
Cagliari had only won two of their last 38 matches away at Juventus, and that didn't look like changing as the hosts dominated from the onset, while the likes of Ronaldo and Alex Sandro went close in the opening 15 minutes.
Sarri's troops went even closer on 35 minutes as Miralem Pjanic's corner found Merih Demiral, who saw his close-range header crash against the crossbar with Olsen well beaten.
Despite Juve's dominance, Cagliari were able to stifle the likes of Ronaldo and Ramsey, although they only managed to register one effort in the first half through Radja Nainggolan.
However, the deadlock was broken four minutes after the break as Ronaldo pounced on poor back-pass from Ragnar Klavan before rounding Olsen to slot into an empty net.
After Giovanni Simeone rattled the crossbar for Cagliari on the hour mark, Juventus were awarded a penalty six minutes later after Paulo Dybala went down under the challenge of Marko Rog.
Ronaldo stepped up and confidently sent Olsent the wrong way to double his and Juventus' tally on the night, with the goal seemingly knocking the wind out of Cagliari's sails.
The Portuguese forward then turned provider to pick out Gonzalo Higuain, who skipped past Klavan to fire home Juventus' third on the day with eight minutes.
The day belonged to Ronaldo, who completed his hat-trick a minute later with a neat finish under Olsen as Juventus move top of the standings temporarily, with Inter Milan taking on Napoli this evening.
