A former Juventus star has not given up on the possibility of Pep Guardiola being appointed by the Serie A giants, using Cristiano Ronaldo as a point of reference.

Speculation has been rife regarding who will be named the new manager of the Bianconeri in the wake of the Italian giants ending their five-year relationship with former coach Massimiliano Allegri.

Despite both the Premier League and Serie A champions publicly indicating that Guardiola has not engaged in any formal negotiations with the Italian giants, rumours regarding the former FC Barcelona boss and the Turin club intensified after Italian journalist Luca Momblano made a shock claim on TopCalcio24 television show earlier this week.

With Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri reportedly said to be the frontrunner in the race to be named as Allegri's successor, former Juventus defender Andrea Barzagli has now weighed in on the matter, claiming that it would be a dream if Guardiola took over the reins of the club.

"People seem to take Sarri for granted, but a decision hasn't been made yet and there are still a lot of names being mentioned," he said, according to Football Italia.

"The Bianconeri directors have barely put a foot wrong over the last few years and in my view, they've chosen the right man: if it's someone with a new idea or much the same, that I don't know.

"I don't know what the situation is at Juve, but I hear talk of Guardiola and it's nice to dream.

"After all, nobody believed it last year when Cristiano Ronaldo arrived, but dreams can come true. We'll see when the club makes its announcement.

"Allegri worked under stress for five years and was criticised too much, but he did well and continued the winning streak started by Antonio Conte."
