Serie A champions Juventus have beaten FC Barcelona and Manchester United to the signing of Matthijs de Ligt, in a deal reportedly worth €75 million (R1.2 billion).

Having been heavily linked with FC Barcelona, Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain, the Dutch defender has opted to join the Bianconeri.
The 19-year-old has put pen to paper on a five-year deal with the Serie A giants, and becomes the club's third-most expensive signing ever, behind Gonzalo Higuain and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Despite his young age, De Ligt captained the Ajax Amsterdam team that knocked Juventus out of the Uefa Champions League last season.
He helped Ajax win the domestic double in 2018/19, and leaves the Dutch side after making 117 first-team appearances, during which he scored 13 goals and assisted another seven strikes.

De Ligt becomes Juve's seventh signing of the window following the arrivals of Aaron Ramsey, Luca Pellegrini, Merih Demiral, Adrien Rabiot, Gianluigi Buffon and Cristian Romero.
