Dutch wonderkid Matthijs de Ligt appeared set for a move to FC Barcelona before a conversation with Cristiano Ronaldo seemed to persuade him to join Juventus, and the player has now admitted that many told him he should join the Catalan club.

Despite going close to signing for the Blaugrana, De Ligt eventually put pen to paper on a massive deal with Italian giants Juve, becoming one of their highest-paid players in the process.
The 19-year-old has now admitted, however, that he had many people instructing him to go to the LaLiga champions.

"A lot of people advised me to do that (sign for Barca), but I told them I had to analyse everything and see which option was best for me," he told Voetbal International.
"Frenkie (de Jong, now a Barcelona player) and I spoke a lot about what we were going to do. We were honest with each other.
"It would have been great if we had continued playing together but our careers shouldn't be dependent on the decision of the other.
"We both have our own career paths. I looked at all the pros and cons and marked down some things.
"In the end, you have to feel right about the club which convinces you the most. That's why I came to Juventus."
