Juventus star Blaise Matuidi has called on more white players to play an active role in the fight against racism in football.
There have been a number of racial incidents in Italy this season, with the likes of Mario Balotelli and Romelu Lukaku being subjected to racist chants, while Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport ran an article with a headline that read "Black Friday" alongside images of Lukaku and Chris Smalling.
Former Manchester City star Yaya Toure put the racism in football down the fans being "more stupid" these days, but Matuidi feels white players should make more of a statement about this issue.
"It's stupidity, these people have no place in a football stadium," the France midfielder told RMC Sport.
"I tell myself that this (walking off the pitch) is not the right solution.
"I have thought about it, but I do not think it is necessarily the right thing to do. It would be a defeat, doing that would be like saying that they won.
"I will tell you what I really think: I think it would be good if a strong statement came from a person who is not of colour.
"It would be more striking. It would be great. We must all be aware of this scourge."
