Casemiro Reveals His Real Name

Casemiro Reveals His Real Name

Real Madrid midfielder Casemiro has revealed that he has been going by the wrong name for almost all of his career.

The 28-year-old broke into Sao Paulo's senior side in 2010 and signed for Los Blancos three years later, before spending the 2014/15 season on loan at FC Porto.

Today, the Brazil international has established himself as one of the most effective defensive midfielders in world football, but how he is recognised around the globe might not be how is known back home.

In a recent interview, the Brazilian revealed the true spelling of his name, saying he chose to stick to his current name because of how well he performed in a particular game.

"Not many people know that, in reality, my name is Casimiro, because my mother's surname is with an I, not an E: Casimiro," he said, according to Sport.

"When I played in Brazil, there was a game in Sao Paulo when people started to call me Casemiro.

"I played really well that day and I decided that people should keep calling me Casemiro, with the E. And here we are today."
