Cristiano Ronaldo had closed in on Lionel Messi's trophy haul, but the Argentine has now ensured that he will stay ahead of his long-standing rival when comparing the duo's silverware.

The Argentine once again put in a stellar performance in FC Barcelona's Copa del Rey final victory over Sevilla last weekend. It was the Catalan giants' fourth successive Spanish Cup victory and their 30th overall.
On a personal level, it was already Messi's sixth Copa title, the joint-most of any player in the competition's history, while it also marked the 31st trophy of his career – four more than Ronaldo. He is currently the most decorated player in Spain history – a record he shares with his temmate Andres Iniesta.
Overall, Messi has lifted eight LaLiga titles, seven Supercopa de Espanas, six Copa del Reys, four Champions League trophies, three FIFA Club World Cups and three UEFA Super Cups.
Unlike Ronaldo, the Albiceleste captain is yet to win a senior trophy with his national team, but did claim one U20 FIFA World Cup as well as an Olympic gold medal. However, both do not count as trophies in his senior career.
Ronaldo, meanwhile, lifted 27 major pieces of silverware in his senior career. The 33-year-old has won 15 titles since joining Real Madrid in 2009 – three UEFA Champions Leagues, two La Liga titles, two Copa del Reys, two Spanish Super Cups, three FIFA Club World Cups and three UEFA European Super Cups.
Furthermore, he also claimed 10 trophies during his six-year stint with Manchester United – one Champions League, three Premier League titles, one FA Cup, two English League Cups, one FIFA Club World Cup and two FA Community Shields.
In addition, he also holds one Portuguese Super Cup, despite not featuring in the game in 2002, but sitting on the bench, as well as the UEFA European Championship title with Portugal in 2016.

Messi will likely add another LaLiga this weekend, where Barca just need to win to secure the Spanish league trophy. They could, in fact, already be champions entering their late clash against Deportivo on Sunday, if Atletico Madrid draw or lose to Alaves earlier in the day.
