It has been claimed that ex-Manchester United superstar Cristiano Ronaldo "irritated" his Portugal teammates at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
Ronaldo Splits From Agent After Saudi Move?
Despite his move to Al Nassr being thrilling for Saudi Arabian football, several news outlets have claimed this week that there has been more drama behind the scenes amid his switch to the Saudi Pro League.
Ronaldo is believed to have split from his long-time agent Jorge Mendes following a reported fallout after the 37-year-old's decision to grant British broadcaster Piers Morgan a tell-all interview.
Mendes, who has represented the five-time Ballon d'Or winner for almost his entire career, was replaced in negotiations with Al Nassr by Ronaldo's friend and personal manager Ricardo Regufe, who was said to be key in discussions with the Saudi giants.
This has been corroborated by Portuguese outlet Publico, who also claim that the former Real Madrid and Juventus forward was not on his best behaviour with his compatriots at the World Cup in the Middle East.
It is said that the ill-discipline he showed in his final weeks at United continued in Qatar, with his on-field strop after being substituted against South Korea in the group stage having caused a stir in the dressing room.
As per the abovementioned publication, the Portuguese Football Federation kept quiet about Ronaldo's antics even though the veteran striker was a "constant source of irritation" for his teammates.
Ronaldo Banned From Making Debut For Al Nassr
Ronaldo, who was unveiled at Al Nassr earlier this week, was dropped to the bench by then-manager Fernando Santos for A Selecao's round of 16 and quarter-final clashes against Switzerland and Morocco, respectively, with this latest report perhaps shedding new light on the former head coach's decision to do so.
