Manchester United have announced their first signing of the January transfer window.

On Friday, the Red Devils confirmed the arrival of 29-year-old goalkeeper Jack Butland, a nine-time England international who will be back-up to first-choice shot-stopper David de Gea.

United acted swiftly following the January departure of 33-year-old Martin Dubravka after he was recalled from his loan spell by Newcastle United, with Butland having also signed on a temporary deal.
Speaking on Thursday, head coach Erik ten Hag insisted in a press conference that his squad requires three experienced keepers as Butland completes what is now an accomplished contingent.
Butland has told United's official website:
"This is an amazing club and one that I am now proud to represent. I'm really looking forward to working with an unbelievable goalkeeping group, supporting each other every day to create the best training and playing environment for the team.
"I've played against David de Gea and represented England alongside Tom Heaton; they are top-class 'keepers, and I am relishing the opportunity to compete alongside and support them as teammates.
"There is a lot that this group can achieve this season and I'm excited to play my part in helping everyone to reach these ambitions."
The shot-stopper spent the bulk of his senior career at Stoke City between 2013 and 2020, making an impressive 168 appearances before returning to the Premier League with Crystal Palace two years ago.
The player has just six months remaining on his contract with the Eagles.
