Manchester United have now been linked with a €40 million (R796 million) move for an African star who retired from international football at just 26 years old.

Despite no goalkeeper in the Premier League this season having kept more clean sheets than David de Gea, it appears United could be planning to bring in a new shot-stopper for the 2023/24 campaign.
The Spaniard's current contract in England expires at the end of the season, although there is a clause that will allow the Red Devils to extend his stay by a further year.
United and the former Atletico Madrid No. 1 have been in talks over a new deal in recent months, but rumours suggest that the 32-year-old has rejected the club's first renewal offer.
According to Corriere dello Sport, this could lead to the 20-time English champions stepping up their apparent interest in former Cameroon goalkeeper Andre Onana, who currently plies his trade for Inter Milan.
Onana made a name for himself in the Eredivisie while playing under Erik ten Hag at Ajax Amsterdam, and is widely considered more suitable to the play the Dutchman envisions his goalkeeper playing.
The 27-year-old is a sweeper-keeper who is comfortable with the ball at his feet, something that got him into trouble at the 2022 FIFA World Cup while representing his country after he was asked to play more conservatively.
Onana stuck by his guns and reportedly refused to adapt his game to suit the Indomitable Lions' coaching staff and team before being sent home from the tournament.

Inter are also said to be willing to sell the player, who has since retired from international duty, if they receive a bid of €40 million as they know they need to make significant sales in the coming window.
