The 28-year-old has been in excellent goalscoring touch for the Ligue 1 club since joining them in 2016.
The team's new boss, Patrick Vieira, has now confirmed that Balotelli wants to quit the club, saying he believes the player's wish should be granted.
"It's going to be very complicated, very difficult, as the player wants to leave," the Nice boss told Canal+.
"What's important, for me and for the club, is to keep players who want to help the club improve.
"And from the moment Mario has decided he wants to leave, the club has to do what's necessary to let him leave."
