Ligue 1

Result: Paris Saint-Germain 5-0 Olympique Lyon

Date: 07 October 2018

Venue: Parc de Princes

Kylian Mbappe stole the show for Paris Saint-Germain, by netting four goals in 13 minutes as the Ligue 1 champions thumped Olympique Lyon 5-0 on Sunday evening.

The hosts were awarded a penalty after just nine minutes when Mbappe was brought down under the challenge of Lyon goalkeeper Anthony Lopes. Neymar took responsibility and calmly slotted home the spot-kick to put the defending champions ahead.

Memphis Depay looked to hit back for the visitors five minutes later, but the Dutchman's free-kick was palmed away by Gianluigi Buffon.

PSG were reduced to ten men in the 33rd minute when Presnel  Kimpembe was shown a straight red card for a lunge on Tanguy Ndombele, while Lyon also ended the half with 10 men when Lucas Tousart was given his marching orders.

PSG were dealt a blow in the 39th minute as striker Edinson Cavani was forced off with an injury and replaced by German defender Kehrer Thilo.

The hosts nearly took the lead in the 52nd minute as Thiago Silva's effort deflected onto the crossbar, before Mbappe fired wide from the rebound.

The lead was eventually doubled in the 61st minute as Mbappe registered his name on the score-sheet with a close range finish.

Five minutes later, Mbappe was at it again as he completed his brace with another simple finish after some good work from Marquinhos and Marco Verratti in the build up.

Mbappe then completed his hat-trick in the 69th minute, with Neymar turning provider to pick out the World Cup winner, who made no mistake from close range.

It got better for the French forward in the 74th minute as his attempts to set up Neymar was blocked, the ball fell into his path once again and smashed the ball home from close range.

PSG pushed for more goal in the remaining stages of the second half, but they were unable to carve out another opening as the encounter 5-0.
