Gianluigi Buffon: What Drew Me To Paris

Gianluigi Buffon: What Drew Me To Paris

Buffon

Former Juventus and Italy goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon has explained how he has "the enthusiasm of a child" as he looks forward to his new adventure at Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain.

Buffon: Why Ronaldo To Juventus Makes Me Happy

The 40-year-old goalkeeper won nine Serie A titles and played 656 matches for the Bianconeri during his 17-year stay in Turin, which ended last season.

At Buffon's first press conference as a Paris Saint-Germain player, the shot-stopper explained his decision to move to France, and insisted he did not join the club just to make up the numbers in the squad.

"I've arrived in Paris with the enthusiasm of a child," Buffon said, as quoted by BBC Sport.

"I have always looked for challenges. Today, I had my first training session in Paris. It was nice to communicate in and hear a new language spoken.

"Everyone wants to have an important role on the team. I want to prove I'm still a great goalkeeper.

"PSG are the club I've been following the most in recent years, I was curious to see what they could give. This new adventure can make me progress as a man and a player.

"I felt I still had something to give deep within me. Sure, I am 40 years old, but I am in good physical and mental state."

Reports: PSG Want €270m Brazil Star

Buffon was reportedly offered an off-field role at Juventus before he announced his departure, but the goalkeeper decided to sign a one-year contract with PSG instead.
