George Weah's Son Makes Debut For Paris Saint-Germain

George Weah is, to date, the only African winner of the Ballon d'Or, and his son is now starting to make a name for himself in France after debuting for Paris Saint-Germain on the weekend.

Timothy Weah joined the French giants' youth academy in July 2014, and has come through the ranks at PSG since.

He signed a professional contract with PSG in July 2017, and has since impressed in the UEFA Youth Champions League as well as at the 2017 FIFA U17 World Cup, where he scored five goals.

On the weekend, coach Unai Emery opted to rest his main strikers for the second leg of his team's UEFA Champions League round of 16 tie with Real Madrid, and fielded a makeshift line-up in a 2-0 win over Troyes.

Timothy came on in the 79th minute to make his debut for the club his father represented 122 times.

"It was a real pleasure to play in Ligue 1 today," he said after the game, as quoted by ESPN.

"I thank the coach, the staff, and the other players, who have been very friendly. I was not far away from scoring – that would have been the icing on the cake!

"I hope that I will get the chance to play again and to score some goals. After my 18th birthday recently, this is like a birthday present. I am proud to play for the club of my heart."

While George Weah scored 47 goals during his time with PSG, Timothy missed the chance to score on his debut after Troyes goalkeeper Erwin Zelazny denied him in stoppage time.

At international level, the 18-year-old has represented his birth country United States of America at youth level, but is still eligible to play for France, Jamaica and Liberia at senior level.
