French Super Cup

Result: Paris Saint-Germain 4-0 AS Monaco

Date: 04 August 2018

Venue: Shenzhen City Stadium

Neymar made a return to action for Paris Saint-Germain, who defeated AS Monaco 4-0 to clinch the French Super Cup for the sixth year in a row.

The Brazil international was named on the bench, while Angel di Maria was joined in the attack by Christopher Nkunku and Timothy Weah.

It was Di Maria who had the first real opening of the encounter as he had a close-range effort saved by goalkeeper Diego Benaglio.

The PSG winger was not to be denied just after 30-minute mark as Di Maria curled home a fine free-kick to hand the Ligue 1 champions the lead.

Monaco, meanwhile, struggled to impose a serious threat going forward as PSG shot-stopper Gianluigi Buffon endured a quiet opening first half.

Thomas Tuchel's men eventually doubled their lead shortly before the break thanks to a strike from Nkunku.

PSG managed to carve out a couple more chances after the hour mark, but Di Maria and Weah failed to take advantage from close range.

The third goal eventually arrived after 68 minutes as Stanley Nskoki did well to pick out Weah, who found the back of the net with a neat finish.

With 15 minutes remaining, Tuchel introduced Neymar for Marco Verratti as PSG were well on their way to victory.

Di Maria completed his brace in the closing stages of the second half with a close-range finish to round off the scoring for PSG.
