Zinedine Zidane Reveals Why He Started His Son Over Keylor Navas

Zinedine Zidane has revealed why he opted to field his son, third-choice goalkeeper Luca Zidane, ahead of Keylor Navas in Real Madrid's 3-2 LaLiga victory over Huesca on Sunday.

The 20-year-old made his first start of the 2018/19 campaign after being given the nod ahead of first-team regulars Keylor Navas and Thibaut Courtois on Sunday night, with Los Blancos extending their winning form to two games in as many games under Zidane.

With former Chelsea shot-stopper Courtois sidelined with a tear in his right quadricep, Zidane shocked many with his decision to field his son ahead of the more experienced Navas for the fixture against Huesca, and the French tactician explained the thinking behind his decision after the match.

"I am happy for him," Zidane told the Daily Mirror.

"For his debut here, with a victory. But that is Luca, he is the third keeper.

"Thibaut was out and I wanted to give Keylor a rest after playing with his country. It came out well.

"I was not picking my son, but a player in Real Madrid's squad.

"I see him as one other player for the team."

The match against Huesca was Luca Zidane's first appearance for the 13-time UEFA Champions League winners since his father's last game in charge of his first spell as Los Blancos boss, against Villarreal on the final day of the 2017/18 campaign.   Do you think Zidane was justified in the selection of his son ahead of Navas? Can you think of any other players who played for the same team as their fathers? Have your say in the comments section below.
