Venue: Estadi Municipal de Montilivi

Los Blancos coach Carlo Ancelotti made four changes from the midweek clash aganist Las Palmas, as Eduardo Camavinga, Nacho, Jude Bellingham and Toni Kroos getting recalls.

The clash also saw two of the top teams coming together, with Girona having their last five matches to set up a mouth-watering tie.

However, Los Blancos drew first blood in the 17th minute when the returning Bellingham did well to pick out Joselu, who managed to fire past goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga from close range.

The lead was doubled four minutes later when  Aurelien Tchouameni lost his marker in the box before sending a powerful header past Gazzaniga for his first league goal of the season.

Girona, meanwhile, had no response for the rest of the half and failed to trouble Los Blancos goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga in the opening 45 minutes.

That changed in the second half when Kepa was called upon to make his first big save five minutes after the restart after doing brilliantly to keep out Yangel Herrera's header.

Both sides opted for a change on the hour mark as Girona threw on Cristhian Stuani and Portu, while Ancelotti withdrew Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo to freshen up their attack.

However, Los Blancos ended any hope of a Girona comeback with 20 minutes to go as Bellingham got his name on the scoresheet after getting on the end of Joselu's pass before rifling the ball beyond Gazzaniga.

The third goal was enough to knock the win out of Girona's sails as Ancelotti's held on for the clean sheet, but there was a sour end to the game for the visitors who were reduce to ten men after Nacho was shown a straight red card for a dangerous challenge on Portu.
