New Ballon d'Or winner Karim Benzema was on target as Real Madrid moved six points clear at the top of LaLiga with a 3-0 win over Elche on Wednesday night.

Result: Elche 0-3 Real Madrid

Venue: Estadio Manuel Martínez Valero

Andry Lunin continued in goal for Los Blancos, while Antonio Rudiger was handed a start after Sunday's El Clasico victory against FC BArcelona.

Los Blancos got off to a fine start when Federico Valverde found the back of the net on 11 minutes with a powerful strike after reacting quickest to rebound.

Los Blancos had the ball in the back of the net for a second time in the 26th minute David Alaba fired past goalkeeper  Edgar Badia but after a Video Assistant Referee (VAR) review, the goal was disallowed for an offside in the build up.

It was one-way traffic in the first half, as the visitors went close on 39 minutes as Vinicius Junior did well to skip past one challenge before unleashing a strike that sailed just wide of the mark.

It was more of the same in the second half, as Vinicius looked to tee up Benzema who dragged his effort wide of the mark on 50 minutes before the Frenchman had a header saved by Badia four minutes later.

Carlo Ancelotti then opted for a change in the middle of the park, as Luka Modric made way for Aurélien Tchouaméni, while Elche threw on  Gumbau for Nicolas Fernandez.

The second goal would eventually arrive in the 75th minute as Benzema played a give-and-go with Rodrygo before calmly slotting into the bottom corner.

There was enough time for a third goal as substitute Marco Asensio got his name on the scoresheet with a well-cushioned finish over Badia to wrap up a good win.
