Last year, Germany-based International Federation of Football History Statistics voted Mamelodi Sundowns' Denis Onyango in tenth position.

Meanwhile, Juventus shot stopper Gianluigi Buffon was voted as world's best goalkeeper in 2017, receiving 251 points. The Italian beat last year's winner Manuel Neuer to first place, with the German finishing in second spot on 103 points.
