Barcelona head coach Xavi Hernandez has made a significant admission over Lionel Messi's potential return to the club as a free agent ahead of next season.

With the 35-year-old's deal at Paris Saint-Germain expiring in June, rumours continue to suggest a move back to the Blaugrana is on the cards.
Messi parted ways with the Spanish giants as a free agent in 2021 after president Joan Laporta decided that handing him a new contract would be financially detrimental to the club.
Today, however, it appears Barcelona are close to receiving the green light on their economic plans for the 2023/24 campaign, which includes the idea to re-sign the seven-time Ballon d'Or winner.
Speaking recently in a press conference, though, Xavi admitted that Messi's possible return is still far from certain.

"It's up in the air," he said, according to Goal.
"It depends on many things. There is not much more I can say. Leo is a spectacular footballer. He is a friend.
"From there, it depends on many things, but above all on his intentions and what he wants."

PSG have two matches remaining in Ligue 1 this season, with Messi expected to not be in their squad for the coming campaign.
