After pushing to join Barcelona in the recent window, Robert Lewandowski is facing elimination from the UEFA Champions League in his first season with the club. Here is what he has said about their 3-3 draw with Inter Milan on Wednesday night.
Ballon D'Or Build-Up: Benzema Favourite, Messi Not In The Running
The Polish forward made it clear in the previous transfer window that his only desire was to join the Blaugrana as it became certain that he would depart Bayern Munich.
While clubs such as Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid had been linked with his signature, conversations with Xavi Hernandez convinced Lewandowski that taking his career to Catalonia would be best for his career.
Now, just months on from his arrival in Spain, the 33-year-old is facing a shock elimination from Europe's premier club competition as Barcelona's UCL fate is to be decided by the results of other sides in Group C, even if they win their remaining two games.
Speaking after the team's disappointing 3-3 draw with Inter at the Camp Nou on Wednesday, Lewandowski bemoaned the way Barca handled the Nerazzurri's counter-attacks.
"We wanted to score more goals so much that sometimes we forgot about our defence and their counter-attacks," he said, according to Mundo Deportivo.
"Inter got too easily under our goal and created situations that left them with a double.
"We've had a lot of injuries to the team in the recent weeks, it's not easy to change the line-up all the time. We lack stability.
"Inter are a tough opponent for a striker. They defend [with] five players, and there is also a defensive midfielder. So we tried to attack with more players so that one of us could lose coverage.
"We scored three goals but conceded the same. We were disappointed for not having won."
