FC Barcelona have been criticised by one of their formers players for their treatment of Gerard Pique, who will retire on Saturday night.
The 35-year-old on Thursday surprisingly announced that Saturday's clash against Almeria will be his last as he is set to hang up his boots.
Why Pique Announced Shock Retirement 'Revealed'
There have been reports that Pique had a falling out with coach Xavi Hernandez due to his lack of regular minutes this season, which seen him make just five LaLiga appearances.
Pique's contract was reportedly also leaked by Spanish publication El Mundo, with the defender's contract only expiring in June 2024.
Riqui Puig, who recently left Barcelona for La Galaxy, paid tribute to his former teammate and reveals he is said for the way he was treated.
"Thank you very much for these years. You are an example for all the Catalans who have enjoyed all the titles you have won since childhood. How you have made us enjoy these years!," Puig wrote on Instagram.
"Those of us who love and admire you are sad, not only because you are leaving the first team... but also because of the treatment you have received lately. Good luck and see you soon."
