The Frenchman spent 10 years with Los Blancos and enjoyed great success during that period, including winning four UEFA Champions League titles.
However, the 28-year-old decided to leave the Spanish giants with one year left on his deal at the time, and he has now admitted it was not an easy decision.
"It was a long thought process. It wasn't an overnight decision," Varane said at a press conference, as per Football Espana.

"I wanted to leave Real Madrid, for sure but I wanted to leave on good terms.
"I wanted to try myself out and get different experiences and emotions at another club.
"I just wanted something different. I knew the Premier League was a top league and I have seen that for myself now, but it was just about taking the decision with calmness."
Varane will be back in Spain on Wednesday evening, when the Red Devils take on Villarreal in their second UEFA Champions League group stage clash of the season.
