Result: Wolverhampton Wanderers 1-2 Manchester City

Date: 20 October 2024

Venue: Molineux Stadium

PFA Player of the season Phil Foden was left on the bench as Pep Guardiola gave a start to Savinho on the right flank, while Jeremy Doku and John Stones were also recalled to the line-up.

There was a Norwegian striker who got the opening goal after just seven minutes, but it came from Wolves as Jorgen Strand Larsen was on hand turned home Nelson Semedo's cross for his third goal of the campaign.

Wolves had a big chance to double their advantage after 20 minutes after catching City on the break, but Semedo saw his goal-bound effort cleared away by Josko Gvardiol.

Gvardiol was the hero at the other end 13 minutes later when he brought the defending champions level in the encounter with a superb strike from distance after collecting a pass from Jeremy Doku.

The Citizens continued to dominate after the halftime break, but they were unable to get past goalkeeper Jose Sa who produced a superb save to keep out Ruben Dias' long range effort which seemed destined for the top corner.

City manager Pep Guardiola responded with his first change after 66 minutes as Foden replaced Doko on the flank, while Wolves introduced Carlos Forbs in place of Matheus Cunha.

The visitors were camped in the Wolves for the remainder of the second half as they went in search of the winning goal, but the visitors sat with 11 players behind the ball to thwart every attack.

With the game seeming headed for a draw, City got the winning goal in the 94th minute when Stones rose highest to head home a corner, with VAR confirming the goal after the offside flag had gone up.
