Record-Breakers Arsenal Hit Sheffield For Six

Arsenal kept pace with Liverpool and Manchester City in the Premier League title race after thrashing Sheffield United 6-0 on Monday night.

Premier League

Result: Sheffield United 0-6 Arsenal

Date: 04 March 2024

Venue: Bramall Lane

The Gunners looked to get the early goal as Bukayo Saka was denied by the upright after just two minutes while Gabriel Martinelli was denied on the rebound.

The deadlock was broken three minutes later when a neat passing move ended with Declan Rice pulling the ball back for Martin Odegaard to slot home from six yards out.

It was always going to be a long evening for Sheffield, as they conceded a second goal on 12 minutes when Jayden Bogle diverted Saka's cross into his own net.

It was 3-0 on the 15-minute mark when Martinelli combined with Jakub Kiwior on the edge of the box before finding the back of the net with a deflected finish.

The rout continued midway through the first period as Martinelli played the ball into Kai Havertz who took one touch before drilling the ball into the far corner.

The Gunners managed to bag a fifth goal just before the halftime break as Rice got his name on the score-sheet with a first-time finish after some good work by Saka down the right flank.

It was more of the same in the second half, with defender Ben White extending the Gunners' emphatic advantage with a lovely left-footed strike after being teed up by Havertz.

There was a bit of bad news in the closing stages when Martinelli had to be carried off after taking a knock to the foot. He was replaced by the returning Gabriel Jesus though.

In the end, six goals was enough for the Gunners, who became the first team in Premier League history to score five or more goals in three successive away games.
