Result: Manchester United 2-1 Brentford
Date: 19 October 2024
Venue: Old Trafford
The Red Devils made three changes from the draw with Aston Villa, as Matthijs De Ligt, Lisandro Martinez and Casemiro returned to the starting line-up, as Jonny Evans moved to left-back.It was the visitors who surprisingly enjoyed most of the ball in the early stages while they also had a few sights at goal, but were unable to trouble goalkeeper Andre Onana.
The game began to open up at the midway point as Alejandro Garnacho was denied by Mark Flekken before Onana was called upon at the other end to keep out Christian Norgaard's effort from distance.
The visitors did get the breakthrough on the stroke of halftime when an un-marked Ethan Pinnock headed home from Mikkel Damsgaard's corner.
Erik ten Hag's men, however, got back on level terms two minutes after the break when Marcus Rashford picked out Garnacho, who sent a wonderful finish into the far corner.
The home side completed the turnaround on 62 minutes when Bruno Fernandes superb flick sent Rasmus Hojlund through on goal, with the Danish striker chipping the ball over Flekken for his first league goal.
Brentford responded with a double change as Fabio Carvalho and Yehor Yarmoliuk were introduced in the attack, while the Red Devils brought on Joshua Zirkzee for Hojlund in a straight swap.
