Premier League leaders Liverpool moved four points clear of Manchester City with a come-from-behind 4-1 victory over Luton Town on Wednesday night.

Result: Liverpool 4-1 Luton Town

Date: 21 February 2024

Venue: Anfield

Jarrell Quansah, Joe Gomez, Ryan Gravenberch, Harvey Elliott and Cody Gakpo were all recalled by Reds coach Jurgen Klopp, but Mohamed Salah and Darwin Nunez missed out through injury.

The Reds came out firing in the first half and should have been ahead inside the first five minutes when Elliot played Luis Diaz through on goal, however the Colombian sent his strike wide of the target.

The hosts were made to rue that miss as Luton opened the scoring on 12 minutes when  Tahith Chong's strike deflected into the path of Chiedozie Ogbene, who had the simple task of heading into an empty net.

Klopp's charges pushed for a way back into the encounter for the remainder and went closest on 31 minutes when Diaz's half-volley failed to hit the target after some good work by Wataru Endo.

The Reds got their reward ten minutes into the second half, with captain Virgil van Dijk  lost his marker to send a glancing header into the far corner from Elliot's corner.

Three minutes later, the turnaround was complete when quick throw-in into the box found Alexis Mac Allister, who sent a cross into the box for Gakpo to head home from point-blank range.

Liverpool got the two-goal cushion with 20 minutes left on the clock as Diaz got his name on the scoresheet by skipping past one challenge in the box before rifling the ball beyond Thomas Kaminski.

Klopp's charges were able to see out the rest of the game and deny Luton another goal, while they went on to grab a fourth on 90 minutes as the influential Elliot got his name on the scoresheet with a lovely finish that left Kaminski.
