Liverpool suffered their first home defeat of the Premier League season after going down 2-1 to struggling Leeds United on Saturday evening.
Premier League
Result: Liverpool 1-2 Leeds United
Date: 29 October 2022
Venue: Anfield
Thiago Alcantara was back in the Reds starting line-up along with Trent Alexander-Arnold, who started on the bench against Nottingham Forest last weekend.
The visitors were gifted the opening goal after just four minutes when a mix-up between Joe Gomez and Alisson Becker saw the former's pass intercepted by Rodrigo, who had the easy task of tapping into an empty net.
The Reds weren't behind for too long as Salah brought the hosts back on level terms in the 15th minute after turning home Andy Robertson's cross at the far post.
Leeds were unlucky not to have bagged a second goal six minutes later when Rasmus Kristensen's cross found Brendan Aaronson, who struck the upright from close-range.
It was an end-to-end affair after that, as Darwin Nunez was denied by Leeds shot-stopper Illan Meslier while Aaronson fired over the crossbar from a free-kick minutes before the interval.
The away side were dealt a blow shortly after the break when scorer Rodrigo was forced off with an injury and replaced by Patrick Bamford.
Reds coach Jurgen Klopp reshuffled his pack just before the hour mark, as Jordan Henderson and Curtis Jones replaced Harvey Elliot and Fabinho in midfield.
The hosts had a chance to go ahead on 70 minutes when Salah won possession high up the pitch and played Nunez through on goal, however the Uruguayan was denied by Meslier.
Meslier came to Leeds' rescue with five minutes left on the clock after Salah got free down the left side of the box before seeing his low strike saved by the goalkeeper.
Liverpool were made to pay for their missed opportunities when Bamford cushioned the ball into the path of Crysencio Summerville, who took one touch before firing into the far corner to seal Leeds' first away win of the campaign.
