Manchester United struck late in the second half to secure a victory over Fulham on Saturday afternoon.
Premier League
Result: Fulham 0-1 Manchester United
Date: 04 November 2023
Venue: Craven Cottage
Marcus Rashford was not included in the squad after failing a late fitness test, while Alejandro Garnacho came in on the left while Raphael Varane was left on the bench once again.
The Red Devils had the ball in the back after seven minutes when Scott McTominay turned home Garnacho's cross but the goal was ruled out after Harry Maguire was deemed to have interfered with play while being in an offside position by the Video Assistant Referee (VAR).
Other than the early disallowed goal, Erik ten Hag's charges struggled to carve out clear-cut chances despite enjoying most of the possession in the first half as the Fulham defence were well drilled.
Fulham, meanwhile, had to wait until the final minutes of the half for their only opening of the half as Willian carved out some space in the box before unleashing a strike that sailed just wide of the mark.
The game opened up on the hour mark when Harry Wilson tried his luck from distance and forced United goalkeeper Andre Onana into a superb save, before McTominay denied Andreas Pereira on the rebound.
United manager Erik ten Hag made his first change soon after that as Uruguay international Facundo Pellestri came on for Antony, who failed to create a chance or register a shot at goal.
The Red Devils were finding it hard to break down the Fulham defence as the half continued, which saw Ten Hag throw on Anthony Martial and Mason Mount for the final 15 minutes, with Eriksen and Rasmus Hojlund.
With time running out, the deadlock was finally broken in the 90th minute when a goal-mouth scramble ended with Bruno Fernandes skipping past two players before firing home from the edge of the box.
The Red Devils were able to hold out for the result, which sees Ten Hag become the joint quickest manager to win 50 games at the club.
