The Citizens are believed to have opened discussions with Sporting Lisbon forward Viktor Gyokeres as they brace for potential interest from Real in Haaland.
Gyokeres has emerged as one of Europe's most sought-after talents, boasting an impressive tally of 56 goals over the past two seasons.
His stellar performances have naturally attracted attention from some of the continent's biggest clubs, with Arsenal having also been linked with his signature.
However, it appears City are in pole position to secure his signature. While they currently boast one of the world's finest forwards in Haaland, uncertainty surrounds his future at the club.
According to Sky Sport Switzerland, Real are keen to lure Haaland to Spain ahead of the 2025/26 season, with the striker reportedly expressing an interest in joining the 15-time UEFA Champions League winners.
The presence of a reported €150 million (R2.8 billion) release clause in the Norwegian's contract has made Real's pursuit much more feasible.
In light of this, Gyokeres is believed to be seen as a prime replacement. City are said to have already been in contact with his representatives, with Sporting's director of football Hugo Viana, who is expected to become the Manchester club's new director of football ahead of next season, reportedly prioritising the signing.

Gyokeres is expected to be available for about €100 million (R1.9 billion), making him a more economical alternative to the potentially departing Haaland.
