Liverpool 'Identify' Surprise African Star To Replace Salah

Liverpool have reportedly identified a surprise African star to replace Mohamed Salah should he leave.

With Mohamed Salah rumoured to be leaving Liverpool at the end of the season, the Reds have reportedly identified a surprise African star to be his replacement.

After going all out in an attempt to secure his services at the beginning of the campaign, top sides in the Saudi Pro League are expected to reignite their interest in the two-time CAF Men's Player of the Year when the off-season returns.

The Middle Eastern league reportedly want to make the attacker the face of the division alongside Neymar and Cristiano Ronaldo, and as he approaches the final year of his current deal at Anfield, the likelihood of a departure from Anfield seems to be growing by the day.

Should Egypt's second-highest top goalscorer of all time leave the Merseyside club at the end of the season, Liverpool will make it a priority to replace their talisman, and according to the Express, the club sees Cameroonian Bryan Mbeumo as the ideal candidate to succeed Salah in a cut-price deal.

Mbeumo was in good form for Brentford this season before he suffered an ankle injury. The 24-year-old managed to bag seven goals and four assists in the 15 league games he had played in 2023/24, before being sustaining the injury in December.

It ruled the forward out of the Africa Cup of Nations, and his absence has coincided with the Bees sliding down the EPL table. The London-based side have lost four of their past five matches, and now find themselves in a potential relegation battle, five points away from Luton Town in 18th position.

Should they be demoted to the EFL Championship, Liverpool could sign Mbeumo for a cut-price, something that would likely suit the six-time European champions as they continue to look for a person to fill their sporting director role.
