Selecao coach opted for the likes of Richarlison, Roberto Firmino and David Neres as his front three, surprisingly leaving Gabriel Jesus on the bench.
Brazil had a lively opening 15 minutes to the encounter, with Firmino forcing Carlos Lampe into a fine save before Thiago Silva nodded wide from a corner.
From thereon, the first half became a drab affair as the hosts showed no real sense of urgency to get the opening goal.
Bolivia, who had only registered one win in their last seven tournaments combined, struggled to pose any serious threat to Alisson's Becker's goal in the opening 45 minutes, while the home side were subjected to boos and whistles as they left the field for the halftime break.
However, the hosts sprung in to life in the second half as Richarlison won a penalty after his shot struck the arm of Jusino after consultation with VAR.
With Neymar not in the side, Coutinho took responsibility and made no mistake from 12-yards out to hand Brazil the lead on 50 minutes.
Three minutes later, Selecao had their second as Coutinho completed his brace after nodding home a cross from Firmino.
