Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski got on the scoresheet once again on the weekend, becoming one of only three players, alongside Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, to achieve an incredible record.

The 31-year-old scored Bayern's opener in their 2-0 win over Union Berlin from the penalty spot on Sunday, and has now netted 40 times across all competitions this season.

Lewandowski, who benefited from the break in football to overcome an injury, has reached the 40-goal milestone for a fifth season running, matching a record achieved only by Messi and Ronaldo in this century.

The Argentine has scored at least 40 goals in the past 10 campaigns and is on 24 strikes so far this season, while Ronaldo netted 40 times or more during eight of his nine campaigns with Real Madrid.

The Juventus superstar has netted 25 times so far this season, and it remains to be seen if Messi and Ronaldo can hit the 40-goal mark once again, given their leagues will resume, albeit behind closed doors.
