Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski has hinted he is confused by Lionel Messi's voting choices for The Best FIFA Men's Player award for 2021.
In November last year, during his acceptance speech at the Ballon d'Or ceremony after scooping up France Football's main prize, Messi had some kind words for Lewandowski.
The Poland international had not only narrowly missed out on winning that prize, but will have felt hard done by in 2020 when the ceremony was cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic, in a year in which he was seen as the outright favourite to take home the accolade.
In his speech, Messi said he believed France Football should award him for his efforts in 2020, words that Lewandowski appeared to appreciate at the time.
In his voting for The Best FIFA Men's Player award, however, the Argentine voted for Neymar Kylian Mbappe and Karim Benzema, in that order, and Bayern's No. 9 has since hinted that he feels the Paris Saint-Germain man went back on his word.
"I voted for him because I appreciate what he's done," he told Polish magazine Pilka Noz.
"Messi said he would vote for me for the Ballon d'Or, but he didn't vote for me for The Best.
"That's his decision. But anyway, I won the prize, so it's easier for me to accept it."
