Bayer Leverkusen moved up to third on the log after thrashing RB Leipzig 3-1 at Red Bull Aren.
Moussa Diaby had an early goal for Bayer disallowed by the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) for offside before Florian Wirtz eventually broke the deadlock for the visitors in the 21st minute and Diaby doubled their lead ten minutes before the half-time break.
Andre Silva pulled a goal back for Leipzig in the 62nd minute but Jeremie Frimpong restored the two-goal cushion for Bayer two minutes later.
Dominik Szoboszlai had a big chance for the hosts to put the game on the edge in the last two minutes from the penalty spot but he struck the post from with his spot-kick.
Leipzig had to settle for eighth spot on the log with 18 points while Leverkusen moved up to third with 24 points, seven points behind leaders Bayern Munich.
The Red Bulls will be back in action on Friday evening away to Union Berlin while Bayer will host Greuther Furth next Saturday in the afternoon.
Eintracht Frankfurt clinched their third victory in a row after a last-gasp 2-1 win over Union Berlin at Deutsche Bank Park.
Djibril Sow broke the deadlock for the hosts midway through the first stanza and Max Kruse levelled matters for Union just after the hour-mark from the penalty spot.
However, Evan Ndicka snatched the winner for Eintracht deep in stoppage time.
Frankfurt moved up to 12th on the log with 18 points while Union remained in sixth place with 20 points.
Eintracht will be back in action next Saturday in the afternoon as they travel to Hoffenheim while Union will resume their league schedule on Friday evening, on home soil against RB Leipzig.
