Bundesliga Report: Bayern Munich v RB Leipzig 09 February 2020

Result: Bayern Munich 0-0 RB Leipzig

Date: 09 February 2020

Venue: Allianz Arena

Sunday's top-of-the-table Bundesliga encounter failed to produce a winner as Bayern Munich and RB Leipzig played to a goalless draw at the Allianz Arena.

The Bavarians made two changes, with Thiago Alcantara and Leon Goretzka starting ahead of Corentin Tolisso and Philippe Coutinho. Meanwhile, Leipzig recalled goalkeeper Peter Gulacsi, Timo Werner, Daniel Olmo and Tyler Adams were all recalled.

Bayern were forceful in the early stages but the visitors got the first chance on 23 minutes after winning possession high up the pitch but Werner's effort sailed inches wide of the upright.

The hosts had a great chance to break the deadlock with five minutes left of the first stanza after Robert Lewandowski latched onto a through ball by Thomas Muller, but the Polish striker's goal-bound shot was blocked by Dayot Upamecano.

Leipzig came close to breaking the deadlock within a minute from the break, as Marcel Sabitzer latched onto a rebound from Adam's shot but the Austrian dragged his shot wide unmarked from close range.

Bayern thought they had won a penalty ten minutes into the second stanza after Lewandowski was brought down inside the box by Upamecano and although the referee awarded the penalty, the Video Assistant Referee spotted an offside on the Polish striker and the decision was overturned.

Bayern coach Hans Flick made a tactical change in the 67th minute as he brought on Lucas Hernandez for Jerome Boateng while Leipzig threw on Patrik Schick for winger Olmo as both sides pushed for a winning goal.

Bayern had a wonderful chance to snatch the lead with 12 minutes remaining after Goreztka found himself with acres of space in the box but his goal-bound strike was Gulacsi.

The Bavarians kept on probing for the winner but the visitors were not giving chances away as the two sides settled for a share of the spoils on the night.
