Gladbach lived dangerously again as Lewandowski struck the crossbar for the second time in the match following 61 minutes from a smart attempt in the area.
The Bavarians put their hopes on fresh faces from the bench, as Paul Wanner replaced Roca and Lucas Schrobenhauser on for Malik Tillman.
Bayern were on the edge towards full-time and nearly conceded a third through Alassane Plea, but Ulreich saved which didn't prevent them going down 2-1 in the end.
