Yanga have been steadily making progress in continental competition in recent seasons.
During the 2022/23 campaign, the Jangwani Street giants made it to the final of the CAF Confederation Cup, where they lost out on the title, via the away goals rule, to USM Alger.
Last season, the Wananchi made it to the CAF Champions League quarter-finals for the first time in more than five decades, and narrowly missed out on a spot in the final four after losing to Sundowns on penalties.
This season, they are looking to go further in the competition and compete with the perennial tournament contenders.
They are currently embroiled in a first preliminary round clash against Burundian side Vital'O, and with a comfortable 4-0 lead after the first leg, the club's communications manager, Ali Kamwe, has revealed that they will use the return leg as a signal of intent to the other African giants.
"We've secured a victory in the first leg, but we anticipate that Vital'O will analyse their performance and look to improve their chances. Similarly, we will identify areas where we can grow to ensure our progression to the next round," Kamwe stated, as per The Guardian.
"Our goal for the second leg is to make a powerful statement in the CAF Champions League, aiming to compete with established powerhouses like Esperance de Tunis, TP Mazembe, Al Ahly, and Mamelodi Sundowns.

"We want to showcase our team's quality on the pitch and create a formidable atmosphere with our fans. Last season, we successfully filled an away stadium in Kigali, and now we aspire to pack the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium for these critical preliminary matches."
