Earlier this week, news emerged that the Red Devils were actively trying to buy the Bafana Bafana international out of his contract.
Reports stated that the Club of the Century want to offer the 30-year-old half of the money remaining on his current contract so they can terminate his existing deal as early as January, in order to free up a foreign player slot for one of Marcel Koller's targets.
Should he leave at the start of the new year, one of the clubs touted as a possible destination for the winger is Zamalek.
A former star for the White Knights, ex-goalkeeper Mohamed Abdel-Monsef Mohamed, also known as Oussa, has revealed that among the executives at the Helmy Zamora Stadium, the signing of Tau has an approval rating of 50%.
Mohamed said on television, as per El Watan, that while some chiefs at Zamalek appreciate Tau's abilities, others are apprehensive about signing the player due to the seeming decline in form he has experienced over the past season.
The two-time Africa Cup of Nations winners revealed that, while the club is assessing the possibility of bringing the Witbank native to their side of Cairo, their main priority is to renew the contract of talisman Zizo.

Like Tau, the Egypt international's contract expires at the end of the season. Having been integral to their success in winning the CAF Confederation Cup last campaign, Zamalek are keen to retain the forward.
