Tefu Mashamaite's 10-day trial with New York City FC has come to an end and it remains to be seen whether or not the club sees him as the man to mend their broken defence.
The Cityzens had endless problems in defence last season, and have made it the main priority in this year's transfer market to reinforce their backline.
The club has already welcomed the arrivals of Andoni Iraola and Angelino to the club, but they are still on the lookout for more depth in their backline.
"We've been through some stretches where we've had hardly any defenders," NYFCF coach John Kreis told the MLS website.
"We've had to play Pablo Alvarez at right back this season. Last game we had zero defenders [on the bench]. We had four guys that were healthy enough to play and available, and we had no other options.
"So for me, we need more defenders and we need more competition within the group. That's what the truly best teams have, they have competition week in and week out for who will start and who will make the 18."
Mashamaite enjoyed a stellar campaign last season, scooping up all the awards he was in contention for.
His exit from Kaizer Chiefs as a free agent caught many by surprise, but things seem to be falling into place for him, and all that is needed is a deal from the Big Apple-based club.
Masha possesses fine qualities as a defender and he would surely add some experience to the team. Do you think Tefu can help fix NYCFC's defence?
