Chiefs Change Their Mind On Ntwari?

Chiefs Change Their Mind On Ntwari?

This is contrary to how Chiefs insiders expressed their confidence in Ntwari just two weeks ago, as reported by Soccer Laduma. So, what has changed now?

Siya sources close to the club have indicated that after the 2-2 draw against Magesi FC on Wednesday night, the technical team is considering giving other goalkeepers a chance to prove themselves.

The insiders added that the technical team believes the defence is doing its job to protect the goalkeeper, who should also play his part, but it is believed Ntwari has not been at his best.

"Things are expected to change in the goalkeeping department. It's believed that the technical team would like to see improvement from the last line of defence by changing the playing personnel in that department. They feel Ntwari has played his part and they would like to see other goalkeepers playing their part as well," said the Siya source close to Chiefs.

"They said a wise man changes his mind and they are about to change their mind on who is their first choice goalkeeper. The few mistakes that Ntwari has made in some games have twisted the technical team's arm to look at another goalkeeper to try and help the team," the source added.

The other options would be Bruce Bvuma or Brandon Petersen. A second insider stated that the second goal conceded against Magesi was the last straw in the technical team's view of Ntwari in terms of his recent form. Though, that doesn't mean he won't have a chance to prove himself later.

"When he joined the team it was clear he was the first choice and even after conceding goals for Rwanda they still believed in him and although he kept a clean sheet against SuperSport United in the Carling Knockout 4-0 win, they believe that in the league he hasn't been at his best. So, the decision is to rest him and give him the chance to regroup and pick himself up," the second source stated.

Soccer Laduma contacted Chiefs for comment on the matter but the club had not responded by the time this report was published.

Amakhosi's next match is against Sundowns in the Carling Knockout quarter-final on Saturday at FNB Stadium. Chiefs prepare for their upcoming match against the Brazilians, and a potential change in the goalkeeping department would highlight the team's commitment to improving their performance. It remains to be seen if Ntwari would keep his place against Sundowns, and if the selectors would bring in Bvuma or Petersen later.
