To be a goalkeeper, you undoubtedly have to be a unique character – one that doesn’t take time to think about his next move, but rather jumps right in there, not thinking about how much harm he may bring upon himself.
While you may describe these five goalkeepers as ‘fearless’, the Fan Park crew thinks that they may have taken one too many knocks to the head.
The former Arsenal goalkeeper had undeniable quality, but his obvious anger issues lead us to believe that all may not have been well in his head. He was often seen in spats with forwards who challenged him in the air for the ball, earning himself 65 yellow cards and seven reds in his long career.
How many goalkeepers do you know of that have made sliding tackles near the halfway line? Not many. The Germany international is one of the most amusing, yet one of the best goalkeepers I have ever seen play. As good as he is, he’s also made a few shocking bloopers, but it’s his rushing out tendencies that have often caught our eye – a real sweeper keeper.
Let’s take a look at Campos’ attire for a second... Perhaps it was used as a tool to put off the attacker, but anybody who takes to the field looking like this has got to be a strange character!
The Frenchman was definitely one of the most charismatic goalkeepers that Manchester United ever had, and only one incident comes into mind when I think of him. In a league match for the Red Devils, Barthez felt that a penalty was wrongfully awarded against his side, so he refused to stand in goal. When he decided to finally take to the middle of the goals and wait for the kicker, he amazingly saved the shot!
The Everton player is another goalkeeper who doesn’t appear to be all well upstairs, but since his move from Manchester United, he has been a much better goalkeeper. Howard is often seen losing his temper at match officials and players alike, and that big beard makes him look ever crazier!
Can you name any other crazy goalkeepers?
