Today, we give you our list of the best footballers to have ever come out of Africa.
Roger Milla (Cameroon)
The Cameroonian put African football on the map when he took Cameroon to the World Cup Quarter finals in 1990. His best moments of his career came in his 30s, which is a bit of an oddity. He was named in the FIFA 100 and was African footballer of the year in 1976 and 1990.
Nwankwo Kanu (Nigeria)
Kanu was the most recognizable African in football in the late 90s and early 2000s, winning African Footballer of the Year in 1996 and 1999. He won two Premier League titles with Arsenal and three Community Shields. He was also an FA Cup winner once with Portsmouth. He also achieved a host of honours, including the Champions League, with Ajax.
Abedi Pele (Ghana)
Pele won three consecutive African Player of the Year titles between 1991 and 1993 as well as a Champions League title with Marseille and was an iconic player for Ghanaian football, winning the African Nations Cup in 1982. His 67 caps and 33 goals from midfield were astounding and his elegant athleticism set him apart from all other footballers in his era.
Samuel Eto'o (Cameroon)
The most decorated African footballer, Eto'o has won, amongst other titles, three La Ligas and three Champions Leagues. He has been named African Footballer of the Year on four occasions and in his heyday was the most devastating striker in football.
George Weah (Liberia)
The man to top our list is the only African to ever win a Ballon D'Or. Weah won the prestigious award in 1995, and won silverware with Milan, Chelsea and PSG. He was a devastating player and is easily the best player to come out of Liberia. His speed, power and shooting separated him from all of the other men on our list, and his exploits were phenomenal.
These guys have been incredible examples for the growth of the game on our continent.
